When choosing an English school, it is important to pay attention to the school’s accreditations, awards, program range and learning environment. But equally as important as those school features are the students you will meet there: your classmates will play a very large part in your classroom experience and social life in Sydney!

At ELC, you will get to study within the best nationality mix of any English language school in Australia, and you will meet highly motivated students from a wide range of backgrounds, ethnicities and cultures, enriching your language travel experience even further.

Australia’s best nationality mix

ELC students truly come from all over the world, with typically:

  • Over 30 nationalities attending the school at any one time
  • Students from over 50 countries enrolling over a year

You will speak English all day, every day

Being immersed in such a diverse environment every day means that you – and everyone else at school – truly need to speak English to communicate with each other. This practice outside of class time is essential to accelerate your progress.

Open up to the world

Beyond this linguistic aspect, our rich and diverse nationality mix also means that you will get to experience the most amazing cross-cultural exchanges and make your stay at ELC all the more enriching.

Nationality Mix

ELC’s daytime adult courses are well-known for having an absolutely exceptional nationality mix. Students from all over the world join our daytime courses, with a remarkable balance of different continents, countries and mother tongues represented at school.

If being immersed in an amazing cross-cultural experience is something you are looking for, you can be assured that this will what you will experience in our adult daytime programs.

This mix pie represents our average nationality mix in 2024  – keep in mind that enrolments are different every year and the nationality mix may be seasonal.

The majority of our daytime adult program students are aged 18 to 25, but ELC is also very popular with more mature students, looking for a serious school that offers high standards.

Nationality Mix

Evening courses tend to appeal to students who prefer to work during the day. As a general pattern, we find that students from Latin America, Brazil, Turkey and Mongolia make up the majority of our evening students. However, if you choose to study your evening course at ELC, you will most likely meet students from a dozen other countries, albeit in smaller proportions. What is important to know is that if you really want to study in the evening, you will find that ELC offers by far the best nationality mix of any schools’ evening courses in Sydney. This means that by choosing ELC for your evening course, you do not need to compromise on being immersed in a multi-cultural environment.

The majority of our evening program students are aged 22 to 28, having typically completed their higher education program in their home country and living a busy life combining work during the day and studies in the evening.

Nationality Mix

Every year, over the course of just 9 weeks, ELC’s junior program attracts students from over 20 countries! Typically, in addition to individual students from this wide range of countries, the program also welcomes organised groups (study tours) that may make up to 25% of the students’ cohort that particular week. This means that one week could have many students from Hong Kong and Russia, while the following week could have many students from Japan and France. Overall, over the course of 4 weeks, a student can typically expect to have been in class or on activities with fellow teenagers from over 15 countries!

Our Junior program is specifically designed for students aged 12 to 17

I spent 3 months at ELC, and it was 3 months with great meetings. ELC allowed me to meet people from all over the world and create real friendships. Concerning the classes, the teachers were always engaged and offered varied lessons. The school also organized lots of activities, both paid and free, like museum visits, and outings to Surf Camp, and Port Douglas. I’ll always remember my time at ELC fondly, with all the wonderful people I met and the fun we had.
